Black Thoughtscapes
What I find immensely interesting about Black Spirituality is that
apart from The Diversity it is always surprising and unexpected.
And I am a great fan of being Surprised. Unbeknownst to everyone -
well I suppose until now... my middle name that I was actually born
with is in fact called "Surprise".
Ha! But I digress.
One of the first things I noticed when I first started interacting in the Black Voices Forum is that it is seemingly predominantly Christian. In fact there isn't much seemingly about it. Frankly it IS predominantly Christian.
But with strands of those who consider themselves non denominational, Black Hebrews and Black Israelites, followers of Kemetology (Egyptology) and Paganism: Black Americanised African Paganism, Ancestral Worship, Celtic Paganism, a little bit of Wicca, New Age, Atheism, Agnosticism, Muslims, fans of U.F.O's and so on and so forth.
All of which adds to the diversity and riot of colours that explodes when reading arguments, discussions, philosophies and thoughtscapes in general.

Black Identity
There are some formidable minds in the Forum in particular the
Faith and Religion discussion room, which I frequent, but they all
share a common root: Christianity.
Because of the makeup of America which is strongly influenced by Christianity - Black Americans like their caucasian counterparts in America still have this strong bond with a seemingly ancient Middle Eastern religion that has influenced the globe- to such a degree that it is pervasive even within Politics.
Some who have adopted Black Hebrewism or Islam for instance originally were Christian- and left it for diverse reasons. There is an amazingly strong Need for Black Identity. That might sound obtuse at first, but if you consider for a moment Black American History- and start from the beginning - avoiding text books then you'll realise that my statement actually makes sense. There is also a highly strong Need for a Black Messiah.
That from my point of view is kind of strange, but I put it down to Cultural Differences because even though I am Black my personal needs and outlook upon life doesn't require something based upon The Abrahamic Root.

Abrahamic Offshoots
What I also find interesting is that both need and identity is
mainly being sought in Abrahamic Offshooots and Americanised
African Religions. The latter I half approve of but have doubts
about it because there is a strong tendency to rewrite everything
African as well as to play The Blame Game and to promote varying
forms of fascism as well as to rewrite world history (Beethoven was
black) and sexuality (homosexuality is a dis- ease),
relationships (black women un-man their men) and so on..
In short if you compared a Black Nationalist with a Christian Nationalist- you really wouldn't be able to distinguish the one from the other even if Jesus (commonly called Yeshua - the 'original' Hebrew name of the Judeo Christian leader) was uttered from their lips either as a profanity or as a vocalised cheerleaders praise quip.
All that aside no other race has laid such a biological and spiritual claim on Africa - because of Jesus and Israel.
Israel, now situated in the Middle East was originally part of Africa. And of course because Jesus was a man of colour - think dark skinned Pakistan man - and of course the biblical description in the book of Revelation - and you have really a Wet Dream to die for.

Jewels In The Crown
Kemetology is another jewel in the crown.
Although I am drawn to Egypt there is a focus on this once great nation that has many blacks gravitating to Kemet. But sadly their eyes only focus on a particular moment in time- Egypts heyday and not before its greatness.
However delving into Kemetology is thoroughly fascinating. Like the original Hebrews who were black so were the Egyptians. We've all been brought to believe that both races were white.
They weren't.
This false image is reinforced all the time by movies and information on Judaism, and The Pharoahs.
There is a lot of anger because of these examples that clearly demonstrates injustices of conveying truth. We have been brought up to believe in a number of lies. Lies that effect nationality, heritage, spirituality and self.
In one sense one can understand the notion of Conspiracy- to keep the black man down.

Zeitgeist
After all- would Christianity be as strong as it is today if the
people who follow it - knew that Jesus was a 'black man'? Or indeed
if the Church told its flock, and had images of Jesus as he might
have looked like - instead of the caucasian appearance that we are
all so familiar with- that he is mainly conveyed as - in most
Church buildings and most importantly in most white men and womens
minds and indeed in some of the minds of black men and women.....
who have been fed The Lie....
Would Mel Gibsons movie: The Passion have gotten off the ground if he had portrayed Jesus as being black.. let alone speaking an African dialect.....
I feel its important to convey the message that for a lot of black men and women not just residing in America but holistically in the globe, that there is a lot of Damage that has been done to Black men and women throughout time. This isn't a Victim Card I'm playing but frankly quite a factual one. I find it interesting that I'm learning more about my own people than I could have learned from a different source.
To summarise - this long winded thoughtscape is to introduce this section that has been created to give a Black Perspective on Religion, Spirituality and Systems as well as Systems of Belief.
